The next photo that I took was of two students in the common room together. I am not planning on using this image on my magazine cover as I don’t think that it represents the schools sixth form very well. The reasons why I think this are;
  • ·I think that the two students used differ to much in height therefore the picture doesn't work properly. The girl is also not looking at the camera and smirking up at the boy who isn't looking too happy about being photographed. This doesn't make the school look positive or engaging which is why I am not going to use this image.
  •
  • ·There are pieces of rubbish scattered over the floor in the front of the picture and on the right hand side which makes the sixth form common room look untidy and this may influence younger students to litter around the school as they are seeing the older students the supposed role models doing so and therefore begin to believe this is acceptable behaviour.
  • ·  I also think that the picture is poorly taken. Firstly it doesn't have a clear focus as you can hardly see the student’s facial features and also it is extremely dark within the bottom half of the picture so you are unable to clearly see what the students uniform is like which is extremely important. This is because if they are shown in immaculate uniform it shows the rest of the school that following the dress code is a rule not a choice. However, saying this the girl is wearing plimsolls which are not school uniform which is why I will not post this picture onto my school magazine.

I took this photo of the St Mark's logo on the schools website as I planned on inserting the logo onto my magazine cover as you are able to see from my draft copy I constructed in paint. I wanted to add this photo onto my cover page so the audience can be aware of the schools name and logo. However, when trying to add this onto my final copy in Photoshop the image was too small and when I tried to enlarge it the image became pixelated. I chose not to use this as it wasn't clear and looked unprofessional. Another reason why I didn't use this image is because I wanted to make sure that all of the images seen on my magazine were mine to ensure I didn't get in trouble for plagiarism.

This is my favourite picture that I took yesterday. I like this photo as it looks like a real action shot and also creates a good reputation for the school showing they support both education and extra curricular activities making sure all students are given opportunities to purse talent. I think this because there is a sixth form student taking part in a performance in the main hall where she is playing the piano for others to listen to. This may help to show that all the school offer a range of activities for students to become a part of to make them enjoy their time at St Marks and get away from the stress associated with school or home life. I also like the colours of this picture as the clothing in which the student is wearing are the same colours as the piano showing continuity. She is also dressed formally which is a requirement of the school dress code therefore portrays a good image for the school.

 However, I am planning on cutting around the outline of the student and the piano so that you are unable to seen the background as it isn't clear therefore draws attention away from my picture. I want to use the image on a plain black background in order to make sure my audience is concentrating on the image rather than the wire on the floor or the messy stage this will help to make my magazine more realistic and professional.

 As this is my favourite image I am going to use this as my main picture to appear on my magazine cover.

Preliminary task draft

This is my draft of my school magazine for my preliminary task. I used paint in order to compose the design instead of hand drawing it in order to get a more realistic approach before using photo shop for my real copy. Through using paint I have learnt that it is important to plan what images and text I am going to use on my front cover to avoid it being too busy or too bare. As you can see from the cover I produced there is a lot of blank space on the page which I can now address when I set out to produce the real front cover next week. I have also learnt how to lay out a magazine cover through product research so that all my stories are in the left third of the page as this is what will attract the consumer eye.
